A valid Irish shore fishing license is not required for recreational bass angling.
Irish Bass Angling Laws & Regulations:
Bass fishing in Ireland is open all year round, but strict conservation laws apply to protect this iconic species. The following rules are set by the Irish government and apply to all recreational anglers.
Bag Limits & Size Limits
• Bag limit: You may retain a maximum of two bass per angler per 24-hour period.
• Minimum size: The minimum legal length is 42 cm — any fish below this must be released immediately.
Closed & Catch-and-Release Periods
• January: Up to two bass may be kept per day (minimum 42 cm).
• February – March: Catch-and-release only — no bass may be retained.
• April – December: Up to two bass may be kept per day (minimum 42 cm).
Important Notes
• These laws apply to the European sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax), a protected species in Irish waters.
• Rod and line only are permitted — no nets, spears, or commercial fishing of any kind.
• Regulations may change — always check the official Inland Fisheries Ireland (IFI) website for the latest information.
• To report illegal activity, contact the IFI Confidential Hotline: 1890 34 74 24 (1890 FISH 24).
While these are the official laws, Irish Bass Guide proudly promotes catch, photo, and safe release to help sustain our wild bass stocks and ensure exceptional sport fishing for future generations.

Day Guided Session (6-7 Hours)
€200
A full-day guided session tailored for anglers looking to build strong foundations or move beyond the basics and spend more time refining their lure fishing technique directly on the water.
We’ll begin with a focused strategy session covering lure selection, weather and tide conditions, and location planning. From there, the majority of the day will be spent on the coast, actively fishing and putting knowledge into practice. We’ll cover:
Advanced casting techniques
Lure selection based on real-time conditions
Reading the water and structure
Hook-up and landing efficiency
Tips on lure tuning and presentation
Fishing different types of ground and understanding how fish hold and move
This session is suitable for beginners starting out in lure fishing, as well as anglers who already fish but want clearer structure, better decision-making, and more consistent results.
It’s a practical, hands-on day with personalised coaching, designed to improve decision-making on the water and help you apply the right approach in changing conditions.
Advanced Night Guided Session (3.5–4 Hours)
€220
Experience the thrill of targeting bass under cover of darkness — when some of the biggest fish feed with confidence. This evening-to-late-night session focuses on the specific techniques, lures, and safety required for productive and safe night fishing.
Night fishing is where small mistakes are magnified. This session focuses on awareness, control, and decision-making in low-light conditions, helping you fish more effectively when visual cues are limited.
You’ll learn:
How bass behavior changes at night
Lure selection: silhouettes, vibration & slow retrieves
Use of light (or lack of it!) to your advantage
Tide and ground selection for night work
Reading conditions by sound, feel, and flow
Safety awareness: navigation, clothing, and hazard detection
When to move, when to stay, and how to build confidence in darkness
This session is for:
Experienced anglers looking to add night sessions to their arsenal, or those wanting to improve their results after dark.
This is not a beginner session and assumes basic casting competence and familiarity with lure fishing equipment.
*Sessions are planned around suitable tides and conditions and may start at dusk or later depending on the time of year.
Day to Night Progression Package
€390
This package combines a full Day Guided Session with an Advanced Night Guided Session, providing a structured progression from building solid foundations during daylight hours to fishing confidently and effectively after dark.
The day session focuses on developing core skills — including tackle setup, casting technique, lure selection, reading water and structure, and understanding how bass position and feed in daylight. It lays the groundwork for clearer decision-making and more consistent results.
The night session builds directly on this foundation, shifting the focus to low-light conditions where bass behaviour changes and precision matters more. You’ll learn how to adapt lure choice and presentation, use limited light to your advantage, read conditions without visual cues, and fish safely and confidently at night.
This package is ideal for anglers who want:
A clear learning pathway from basics to advanced techniques
Greater confidence fishing across different tides and light levels
A deeper understanding of bass behaviour across a full fishing cycle
Sessions do not need to take place on consecutive days and will be scheduled around suitable tides, conditions, and availability.
